الأسئلة الشائعة

Many leading independent schools use the 7 plus (7+) exam to assess candidates for entry into Year 3. The exam can vary from school-to-school, as there is no standardised testing. However, most usually contain assessments based around Maths and English, and in some cases, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning too.

The assessments tend to be quite short, usually around 30 minutes per exam.

Some schools also include group-based activities and problem-solving tasks as part of their assessment.

Finding the right school for your child can be a daunting and stressful process, and so, we want to make it as stress-free a process as possible. Our specialist consultants have decades of experience advising parents on schools and taking you through every step of the process.

Alongside this, we have put together a table of schools [link to table] that offer the 7 plus (7+) exam, their deadlines and useful information.

Our entrance exam tutors specialise in preparing children for the 7 plus. Some of the top independent schools often use their own in-house exam papers, and thus, we aim to match you with a tutor with experience of getting students into your school of choice.

For many children, the 7 plus is likely to be the first competitive exam they take, and so, our experienced tutors micromanage every step of the process and ensure that it is an enriching experience.

Our 7 plus tutors support your child by creating a tailored programme specific to their needs, working to plug gaps in their knowledge, refining the areas they are already excelling in, and, importantly, building up their academic confidence. In our experience, familiarity with the “type” of questions they are likely to encounter makes the actual exam less daunting and so, we strongly believe in the use of sample papers to aid their preparation. The key to doing well is the ability to answer questions correctly and at speed, and practice goes a long way to helping your child crack both.

We have a number of experienced tutors who travel to your home to conduct lessons in-person, as well as outstanding online tutors too.

The 8 plus (8+) is a competitive entrance exam that many top UK independent schools use for entry into Year 4.

The exam focuses on Maths, Reading Comprehension and Writing, as well as some Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning. The questions are grounded in Key Stage 1 of the UK national curriculum.

In addition to this, some schools may ask pupils to attend an interview to ascertain their suitability for a place at their school.

The structure of the 7 Plus (7+) and 8 Plus (8+) exams are very similar. However, the 8 Plus (8+) exam is aimed at a higher level with students expected to have, as a minimum, a full understanding of the Year 3 Maths syllabus. For English, they should be able to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, and a higher level of spelling and grammar. The 8 Plus exam may also involve separate spelling and punctuation tests.

Make use of our table which details a selection of schools, their process, deadlines and other important information.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and we would strongly encourage parents to do their own research in addition to what we have provided.

Our specialist 8 Plus (8+) tutors have a proven track record of helping students get into some of the most competitive independent day schools in the UK. At Expert Tuition, we recommend a tailored programme that addresses your child’s strengths and weaknesses, and a programme that has your school of choice in mind from the outset.

The 8 Plus (8+) tutors will take your child through every topic that they can be examined on, focus on improving both their accuracy and speed, and, importantly, build up their academic confidence. Our tutors utilise relevant resources including sample papers to help prepare your child as thoroughly as possible.
