Background

Helen is a Physics student at Imperial College London. In her spare time, she loves to read and to create art. Her favourite book is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE & APPROACH

Helen is an experienced Maths and Physics tutor. She believes that the best way to approach these subjects is through examples. The first step to learning a new topic involves her going through an example question with the student. She finds that it is much easier for students to learn when they see something in front of them, rather than it being in the abstract. Even at this stage, she tries to involve the student as much as possible. For example, they can complete equations or help her with arithmetic. Once the student appears to understand the concept or topic, she invites them to approach a question themselves with either little or no help from her. This stage is amazing at building fluency.

“For me, tutoring is something that I find incredibly fulfilling. I love having the opportunity to inspire and help students reach (or even surpass) their academic goals. I first started tutoring during Year 13 when a family friend asked for some assistance. I quickly came to realise how exciting it was to teach and see a student gain confidence in their abilities.”
